Coral Nursery Success at Dome Marina, Ain Sokhna
We're thrilled to share the successful installation of our test coral nurseries at Dome Marina in Ain Sokhna, made possible through the invaluable support of our local partner, the Dome Marina Group. Despite numerous delays due to permits and logistical challenges, our team was finally ready to proceed.
Our initiative embraced sustainability by using recycled materials found around the property, including old beach lounge chairs. With the assistance of a Dome Marina coral gardener trainee, TheOceanRoamer team worked tirelessly under significant time constraints. Despite having only five tanks of low-quality air and just a few days before the set deadline, we persevered.
In just five days, with the efforts of one dedicated scuba diver, we successfully installed two coral nurseries. These nurseries now house around 50 fragmented Acropora specimens collected from the surrounding area. Program coordinator Henri Hemmerechts reported on the achievement, highlighting the team's dedication and resourcefulness.
Currently, our nurseries are under constant monitoring, thanks to local volunteers and our diligent gardener trainee, Mohamed (Abu Maka) from Dome Marina. We are optimistic about the future, aiming to expand both our nurseries and our monitoring capabilities once additional funding and permits are secured.
